Metamucil App - Getting Started

Welcome to the Metamucil App powered by Dieta Health. This application will take you on a journey through different doses of Metamucil to help determine which is best for you.

Use this guide to help you make the best out of the features the Metamucil App has to offer.

How it Works

Find your optimal Metamucil dose by following three simple steps:

1. Track Your Digestive Health

Track your bowel movements, water intake, and how you’re feeling each day.

2. Try Different Metamucil Doses

The app will provide recommendations for Metamucil dosage amounts (see below). Spend some time taking each dose and tracking your digestive health along the way.

If you have questions, be sure to ask your Metamucil Coach by tapping the chat icon in the top right of your screen.

3. Analyze & Optimize

Analyze your results to determine which dose helped improve your gut health the most.

Understanding the Metamucil Doses

The best way to determine the optimal dosage of Metamucil for you is to try short periods of different doses. The app will guide you through each of the doses on the Dosage screen.

For each dose, take the recommended amount for a short time period (usually 5-7 days) and track your bowel movements and symptoms.

Start

During the Start level, you will complete tracking without taking Metamucil. This will serve as a baseline to understand your digestive health when not taking Metamucil at all. It is recommended to spend 3-5 days completing the baseline.

Level 1

Level 1 amounts to 1 rounded teaspoon of Metamucil, once per day. It is recommended to attempt this level for 5-7 days.

Level 2

Level 2 amounts to 1 rounded teaspoon of Metamucil, twice per day. It is recommended to attempt this level for 5-7 days.

Level 3

Level 3 amounts to 1 rounded rounded teaspoon of Metamucil, three times per day. It is recommended to attempt this level for 5-7 days.

Chatting with a Metamucil Coach

Let us help you get started taking Metamucil. Chat with a Metamucil coach by clicking on the messaging icon in the top right of the screen. You will then be connected to a Metamucil coach which can help you with general knowledge about the product. For example, below are some topics that cover frequently asked questions:

For some questions which require medical expertise, your Metamucil coach may recommend that you speak to your doctor for more information.

Earning a Metamucil Coupon

Once you have completed 14 days of tracking, a 20% off coupon for Metamucil. To find and copy your coupon, look for a pop-up letting you know that the coupon is available, or proceed to the Buy screen within the app.

Items to Complete Daily

Complete the following activities daily to help discover your optimal dose:

Bowel Movement Tracking

While trying different Metamucil doses (and in the baseline phase when not taking Metamucil), capture images of each bowel movement. Tracking is easy and secure! Use the steps below to begin tracking:

  1. Create: Add a new Bowel Movement entry to your diary by clicking the orange + at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Capture: Align your toilet seat with the transparent filter and snap a clear photo of the stool. Capture before the stool is covered in toilet paper.

  3. Details: You can move the sliders to enter details such as the consistency and completeness of the bowel movement.

  4. Save: Hit the save button and you’re done!

Record your Metamucil doses using the orange + at the bottom of the screen as you take them.

Remember, for the Start level, no Metamucil intake is required. This will help collect baseline data for future tracking.

Symptom Score, Water Intake, and Menstrual Cycle

At some point throughout the day (preferably towards the end), record the following three items on the Diary screen:

Symptom Score: The app will ask “How are you feeling today?” Select the emoji corresponding to your overall physical symptoms (or lack thereof) for the day.

Water Intake: Record the number of 8-ounce glasses of water you drank during the day.

Menstrual Cycle: If applicable, record information about your Menstrual cycle, which may at times directly affect your digestive health and analysis.

Analyzing Your Digestive Health

Understanding Your Analysis

The Metamucil App allows you to analyze your stool and symptoms over time on the Analysis page.

Simply select the desired characteristic from the dropdown at the top of the screen.

By default, the analysis provided compares your average scores across levels to help you determine which level was best for your digestive health. Individual levels can also be analyzed using the dropdown on the top right.

The following characteristics are tracked by the Metamucil App

  • Bristol

  • Consistency

  • Fuzziness

  • Fragmentation

  • Volume

  • Frequency (number of bowel movements per day)

Not sure which to use? Start with the Bristol stool scale.

The Bristol Scale

The easiest way to analyze your digestive health is by using the Bristol stool scale.

The ideal stool is generally between 3 and 5 on the Bristol scale. Scores lower than 3 are generally considered constipation, while scores higher than 5 are generally indicative of diarrhea.

When determining which dosage of Metamucil is right for you, it is recommended to choose the dosage which corresponds to an average Bristol score closest to 4.
